The Story Behind This Discovery Box 2.0
Our original Fu Brick Tea Discovery Box proved something we already believed: when people actually taste great Fu Zhuan side by side, they understand immediately why this category of Chinese dark tea deserves a place alongside aged pu-erh and single-origin coffee. The first box sold well beyond our expectations, and the feedback was consistent — customers wanted more diversity in terroir and vintage.
So we rebuilt it from the ground up.
The Fu Brick Tea Discovery Box 2.0: Terroir & Vintage Edition is not just an upgrade. It is a structured curriculum in one of China's most historically significant teas. Jingyang Fu Brick Tea (泾阳茯砖茶, Jīngyáng Fúzhuān Chá) originated over 600 years ago along the ancient Silk Road trade routes. For centuries, these compressed bricks were the primary form of tea consumed across Central Asia and the northern Chinese steppe — valued for their durability, digestive properties, and the unique fungal colony known as "Golden Flowers" (金花, Jīn Huā), or Eurotium cristatum, that develops naturally inside the brick during the 发花 (Fā Huā, "flowering" fermentation) process.
We selected three estates that each take a different path to greatness.
On Taoism breaks from convention by using large-leaf Yunnan Hei Mao Cha tea base material and Fujian Fuding Shoumei white tea — a decision that produces exceptionally rich Golden Flower density and a sweet, fungal aroma that is more immediately accessible to new drinkers. Their Yunnan large-leaf Fu Brick won the 2025 World Tea Champion "Best Leaf" Award, and you will find two regional expressions of it — Fengqing and Lincang, both within Yunnan Province — in this box.
YXT (Yong Xing Tai) stays closer to the Shaanxi tradition by sourcing exclusively from the Qinling and Dabashan mountain ranges in southern Shaanxi — one of China's most pristine high-altitude tea zones. Their Ximanzi grade uses premium-grade leaf with very few stems (特级原料, Tèjí Yuánliào). Their Dabashan brick uses 2016-2017 raw material pressed in 2018, offering a glimpse of early-aged character. Their Guotai brick is hand-crafted using the same top-grade Qinling leaf, dense with Golden Flowers, and finishes with a clean mineral note that is difficult to find in any other Fu Zhuan.
Genshe is the most traditional of the three. Founded by Jia Genshe, a certified inheritor of China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage for Jingyang Fu Brick Tea-making, the estate uses only Hunan Anhua black raw tea (湖南安化黑毛茶, Húnán Anhuà Hēimáochá) — the historically authentic base material for Shaanxi Fu Zhuan. Every brick is hand-pressed (手工压制, Shǒugōng Yāzhì) and must age in-house for a minimum of four years before release. The three Genshe vintages in this box — 2010, 2014, and 2019 — allow you to follow the aging arc of the same traditional craftsmanship across 16 years, watching how texture deepens, how the fungal edge softens, and how a lingering sweetness gradually takes over.
All nine teas in this box are produced and stored in Xi'an under strict dry warehouse conditions (干仓, Gān Cāng) — you can read more about our Xi'an dry storage standards here. At a lower total price than our previous edition, this box is designed so that no serious tea lover has any reason not to start here.
