Varieties of White Tea

White tea is a type of tea that is produced from the Camellia sinensis plant. It is known for its delicate flavor and health benefits. White tea is typically harvested in the spring, when the leaves are young and tender. The leaves are then processed by withering them in the sun and then steaming or frying them. This process helps to preserve the delicate flavor of the leaves.

There are three main varieties of white tea:

    • Silver Needle 
    • White Peony 
    • Gong Mei

Silver Needle is the most prized variety of white tea. It is made from young, unopened buds that are covered in white hairs. Silver Needle has a delicate, floral flavor with hints of sweetness.

White Peony is made from a combination of young buds and leaves. It has a more complex flavor than Silver Needle, with notes of citrus, honey, and nuts.

Gong Mei is made from older leaves than Silver Needle or White Peony. It has a more mellow flavor with hints of caramel and spice.

Autumn White Tea

In addition to the three main varieties of white tea, there is also a fourth variety called autumn white tea. Autumn white tea is harvested in the autumn, when the leaves are older and more mature. It has a more robust flavor than spring white tea, with notes of wood, fruit, and nuts.

Harvesting season

The different varieties of white tea are harvested at different times of the year. Silver Needle is typically harvested in the spring, when the leaves are young and tender. White Peony, Gong Mei, and autumn white tea can be harvested at any time of the year.
