The Dragon Egg Pot is a classic type of Yixing purple clay teapot.

The entire body of the pot is egg-shaped, with a simple, smooth, rough, thick design and a solid overall sense. The original design of the Dragon Egg Pot 龙蛋壶 was first created by Shi Dabin 时大彬.

In Chinese culture, the dragon is the supreme auspicious totem, and in folk legends, Pi Xiu 貔貅, the ninth son of the dragon, hatched from a dragon egg. Pi Xiu is believed to ward off evil and bring good luck. Naming this pot type "Dragon Egg" contains beautiful wishes and expectations.

The Dragon Egg Pot comes in tall and short versions. Artists in different eras used different concepts and techniques when creating it, and there are marks of the times in firing, decoration, and shape. Moreover, many other complexly decorated Dragon Egg pot types have been extended based on this essential style.

This product is a set of Dragon Egg Pots made of five different clay materials.

  • Purple Clay 紫泥: Purple clay is one of the most common and representative materials in Yixing purple clay. Its clay nature is stable. After firing, the color is purple or dark purple. The texture is gentle, the breathability is good, and it is suitable for brewing various teas and a wide range of teas.
  • Purple Vermilion Clay 紫朱泥: Purple vermilion clay is a relatively rare clay material. After firing, it is bright and charming red, the texture is fine, and the pot's surface has a good gloss. However, the shrinkage rate is significant, and production is challenging.
  • Big Red Robe 大红袍: The clay material is rare and precious. After firing, it presents a brilliant red color, with a gentle texture and excellent gloss after being cared for.
  • Duan Clay 段泥: Duan Clay is also called Tuan Clay团泥. The clay material is rich in color, including beige and bluish-gray. It has good breathability and a simple texture.
  • Green Clay 绿泥: Green clay is generally divided into Ben Shan Green Clay 本山绿泥 and Dark Green Clay 墨绿泥, etc. After firing, the color is primarily light yellowish-green. The clay is tender, and the texture of the pot body is fine.

These five pots, made of different clay materials, are all finely crafted. Their surface is as gentle as jade. The overall appearance is dignified and stable, with harmonious proportions and a strict structure, demonstrating Chinese aesthetic appreciation.

The smoothness of the water outflow from the spout is also a critical factor in judging the quality of a pot. This pot has a smooth water outflow, like a water column. Because its spout design is very meticulous, and the connection with the pot's body is natural.

The imprinted texture at the bottom of the pot is clear, and the knob on the pot cover is round and full, comfortable to hold. It is a very exquisite purple clay pot suitable for daily use and is made with superb craftsmanship.

Brewing tea with a purple clay pot has many benefits. It neither takes away the aroma of the tea nor has the smell of overcooked soup. It retains the tea's color, aroma, and taste and can also bring out the fragrance of the tea leaves.

You can purchase one of the pots or a set of five pots to brew different teas respectively.

  • [Specifications] Length: 10.6 cm, Diameter: 4.5 cm, Height: 5.7 cm
  • [Capacity] Approximately 200 - 225 ml

**The size and capacity of the five Dragon Egg Pots are similar. Because they are handmade, the clay material shrinks during the firing process, and manual measurement is inevitably subject to errors; the actual product shall prevail.
