Join the Tea Community

Our customers and tea friends often gather on The Tea Table, a tea community on Discord originally created by tea enthusiast Liquid Proust in 2020.

Inside the server, members discuss tea, share tasting notes, and help each other learn more about Chinese tea.

Some of our customers have also started a small OrientaLeaf corner there to chat about the teas they’re drinking. If you'd like to meet other tea drinkers and join the conversation, you're warmly welcome to join.

A refined black tea with natural lychee aroma—sweet, smooth, and steeped in legend.

Fei Zi Xiao Black Tea – Naturally Sweet, Grown in Tongmuguan

Fei Zi Xiao (妃子笑), also known as Concubine’s Smile, is a specialty black tea crafted in Tongmuguan, Wuyi Mountains—home of the original Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (Lapsang Souchong). This tea is a modern take on traditional techniques, offering a softer, fruitier experience while preserving the essence of classic Wuyi black tea.

Its name comes from a story of lavish devotion: to make the beloved concubine Yang Guifei(杨贵妃) smile, the emperor of Tang dynasty ordered fresh lychees to be rushed thousands of miles to the capital. This tea recalls that indulgent sweetness—with a natural lychee note that’s both gentle and enchanting.

🌱 Origin and Processing

  • Region: Core Protected Area, Tongmuguan, Wuyi Mountains, Fujian, China
  • Altitude: High mountain, forest-rich terrain
  • Harvest: Spring 2025
  • Craftsmanship: Refined small-batch processing rooted in Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong tradition, without artificial flavoring.
  • Producer: Ruolan Tea Factory in Nanping, Fujian — a family-run tea maker with over 50 years of experience in Wuyi tea. Three generations of tea artisans work together, focusing on quality and traditional methods.

🍃 Appearance & Aroma

  • Dry Leaves: Tightly twisted, glossy black strands with golden tips
  • Aroma: Natural lychee fruit note blended with sweet floral and honey hints; clean and fresh—no smoke, no green or off-note.

🍵 Brewing & Taste

  • Infusion: Clear, bright red liquor
  • Flavor Profile: Smooth and mellow, naturally sweet, with fast and lasting hui gan (pleasant returning sweetness)
  • Mouthfeel: Gentle and comforting, never bitter or astringent
  • Aftertaste: Lingering lychee-like fruitiness that leaves a soft, fragrant finish

🍂 Tea Leaves After Brewing

  • Uniformly red, soft, and elastic leaves that reveal the quality of the material and expert fermentation

✅ Why Choose This Tea?

  • Grown in the birthplace of Chinese black tea: Tongmuguan
  • Unique lychee aroma without any added flavors
  • A poetic blend of history, craft, and natural beauty
  • Ideal for gifting, sharing, or daily enjoyment
