Cliff-grown Rou Gui from Wuyi’s shaded valleys — rich, smooth, and deeply aromatic.

Grown deep within the shaded valleys of Wuyi Mountain, Keng Jian Rou Gui is a distinctive rock oolong made from the famous Rou Gui cultivar. Unlike high-sun cliff teas, this tea thrives in a humid, narrow terrain known as “Keng Jian”—a cool, misty environment between steep rock walls. This microclimate softens the signature spiced character of Rou Gui and enhances its smooth, lingering finish.

This tea comes from Ruolan Tea Factory, a family-run producer in Fujian with over 50 years of experience. The 2024 spring harvest underwent traditional roasting to develop a layered, full-bodied flavor.

Tasting Notes:

  • Aroma: Deep and balanced. Classic cinnamon spice meets wood, orchid, and a subtle sweet floral note.
  • Mouthfeel: Silky and structured. The liquor is thick yet clean, strong yet not harsh.
  • Finish: Clear rock rhyme (Yan Yun) with a sweet aftertaste that rises from the throat.
  • Brew Performance: Holds its structure over 6–9 infusions, with evolving flavor and aroma.

Flavor Progression:

  • First Steeps (1–3): A calm spice, not overpowering. The cool valley influence shows as a gentle freshness.
  • Middle Steeps (4–6): Texture builds, floral and mineral tones appear, and natural sweetness unfolds.
  • Late Steeps (7+): A smooth, sweet base remains. Subtle roasted notes linger with a soothing throat feel.

If you're seeking a refined and contemplative version of Wuyi Rou Gui—something less aggressive but rich in depth—this pit-valley grown tea is a must-try.
