A decade of careful dry storage in Xi'an has transformed this handmade traditional fu brick into something silky and complex — centuries of Silk Road heritage meeting the probiotic power of flourishing golden flowers.
What Makes It Unique
- National Intangible Cultural Heritage Craft — Handmade by a certified heritage inheritor carrying 600 years of Jingyang craftsmanship; this lineage cannot be replicated by anyone outside it.
- Rare 10+ Year Vintage with Active Golden Flowers — 2013 Anhua leaves, pressed in 2014, dry-stored in Xi'an since 2018: a complexity of flavor rarely found elsewhere.
- Traditional Tea-Oil Infusion Process — Brewed tea concentrate is reabsorbed into the leaves before fermentation, producing an exceptionally rich, layered taste.
- 100% Handmade, No Shortcuts — From leaf selection to final pressing, every step is done by hand, preserving traditional Shaanxi techniques lost to industrial production.
- Clean, Dry Xi'an Storage — No off-odors, no dampness: ten years of controlled aging and nothing but pure transformation.
In the heart of Shaanxi Province, where the Jing and Wei rivers meet, lies the birthplace of fu brick tea — a unique terroir that traditional tea masters believe is essential to the tea's character. Xianyang's geography and climate made it the origin of fu tea. Three elements define authentic fu brick production: the climate of the central Shaanxi plain, the waters of the Jing and Wei rivers, and the inherited craft of local tea masters.
This brick comes from the hands of Jia Genshe, a nationally recognized inheritor of the Jingyang fu brick tea making technique — itself formally listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is more than a plaque on the wall. Jia's family workshop represents a revival: studying ancient texts, consulting veteran craftsmen, and running countless trials to recreate Jingyang's authentic fahua (flowering) process, bringing a technique dormant for nearly half a century back to life.
What sets this tea apart from factory production is its preserved "tea-oil" process: coarse Anhua dark tea (heimaocha) from Hunan undergoes initial fermentation, is then brewed, and the thick liquor is poured back over the leaves before pressing. This step — mostly abandoned by modern producers — deepens the tea's body and gives it a richness comparable to barrel-aged spirits, where the vessel itself becomes part of the flavor.
The golden flowers are no accident. They are cultivated through a meticulous process called fahua. After pressing, the bricks are moved to a special flowering room, where the masters must control the environment precisely for weeks — holding temperature between 22–28°C and humidity at 75–90%. Once the flowers reach optimal density, the brick began its decade-long journey in a Xi'an dry warehouse — clean, stable, free from damp — slowly and gracefully transforming from bold smoky and hay-like notes into mellow aged and jujube aromas: a truly matured fu brick.
Your Authenticity Guarantee
- Certified heritage source: Directly from the workshop of a National Intangible Cultural Heritage inheritor — fully traceable from leaf to brick.
- Verified dry-storage history: Documented Xi'an warehouse conditions; guaranteed free of mustiness or off-odors.
- Active probiotic culture: Fu brick tea is renowned for its "golden flowers" (Eurotium cristatum), a beneficial probiotic fungus developed through a unique fermentation process, creating flavors and health benefits found in no other tea.
