Join the Tea Community

Our customers and tea friends often gather on The Tea Table, a tea community on Discord originally created by tea enthusiast Liquid Proust in 2020.

Inside the server, members discuss tea, share tasting notes, and help each other learn more about Chinese tea.

Some of our customers have also started a small OrientaLeaf corner there to chat about the teas they’re drinking. If you'd like to meet other tea drinkers and join the conversation, you're warmly welcome to join.

Fu Brick Tea Shop | Award-Winning Fuzhuan & Golden Flower Tea

Fu Brick Tea — also known as Fuzhuan Cha (茯砖茶) or Fu tea — is a post-fermented dark tea born in Jingyang, Shaanxi, over 650 years ago. What sets it apart from every other tea in the world is what lives inside it: "Golden Flowers" (Jin Hua, 金花), a probiotic fungus called Eurotium cristatum that blooms during a carefully controlled fermentation process known as Fahua (发花).

These golden specks are not a flaw. They are a sign of masterful craft — and the source of Fu Brick Tea's signature smooth, mellow sweetness, its probiotic digestive benefits, and its remarkable ability to age gracefully for decades.

At Orientaleaf, we carry the world's most carefully curated Fuzhuan collection — 36 varieties sourced directly from three award-winning producers, each with a distinct philosophy and flavor identity:

  • On Taoism  World Tea Champion 2025. Uses premium Yunnan and Fujian raw materials to craft Fuzhuan with intense aroma, natural sweetness, and exceptionally dense Golden Flowers. Shop On Taoism →
  • YXT (Yongxingtai)  The high-grade exception. Sources tea leaves exclusively from their own gardens in the Qinling Mountains of Shaanxi, using Special Grade and First Grade raw material — a rarity in Fu Brick Tea, which proves that not all Fuzhuan is made from coarse leaves. Shop YXT →
  • Master Jia Genshe  China's Intangible Cultural Heritage successor. Every brick is made from Anhua, Hunan raw material and aged in the warehouse for a minimum of four years before release, making his teas the definitive choice for aged Fu Brick Tea, with a warm, smooth, and deeply mellow character. Shop Genshe →

Every tea in this collection is gluten-free — our producers use natural Fahua fermentation without wheat flour, making these teas safe for people with gluten sensitivities.

Your Complete Guide to Buying Fu Brick Tea

How to Choose the Right Fu Brick Tea

Not all Fu Brick Teas are the same — and that's what makes exploring them so rewarding. Here's what matters most when making your choice:

1. Look for Dense, Evenly Spread Golden Flowers

The Golden Flowers (Eurotium cristatum) are the single most important quality indicator in any Fuzhuan tea. Dense, uniformly distributed golden-yellow specks throughout the brick mean the fermentation was expertly controlled. Sparse or absent blooms suggest lower-grade production. The traditional rule still holds: the more Golden Flowers, the better the tea.

2. Know the Difference Between Producers

Fu Brick Tea is not a single, uniform product — the producer's philosophy shapes everything about the tea's character:

  • On Taoism teas are built for aroma and sweetness. Using Yunnan and Fujian base materials, they produce a Fu Brick that is immediately approachable, floral, and richly fragrant — an excellent entry point for new drinkers and a favourite among experienced ones.
  • YXT (Yongxingtai) teas are built for raw material quality. Using Special Grade and First Grade leaves from their own Qinling Mountain gardens, YXT challenges the assumption that Fu Brick must use coarse, low-grade leaves. These teas are clean, nuanced, and show what truly premium base material can produce.
  • Master Jia Genshe teas are built for time and depth. Every brick spends a minimum of four years aging before it leaves the warehouse — a commitment almost unheard of in the industry. Made from Anhua, Hunan leaves, Genshe's teas are warm, smooth, and richly complex: the gold standard for aged Fuzhuan.

3. Fresh vs. Aged: Which Should You Buy?

  • Fresh Fu Brick (1–3 years): vibrant jun hua aroma from the Golden Flowers, bright sweetness, lively and clean character.
  • Aged Fu Brick (5–15+ years): smoother, deeper, and more complex — notes of aged wood, dark honey, dried jujube, and Chinese herbs develop over time.

If you are new to Fu Brick Tea, start with On Taoism for the most approachable flavour, or try our Discovery Box 2.0 to compare all three producers side by side. If you are an experienced dark tea drinker looking for depth, Master Jia Genshe's aged bricks are the natural destination.
