"Tan Chun" (探春) literally means "exploring spring" — searching for the essence of spring in a cup of tea. The name reflects the pursuit of the finest early spring tea leaves from ancient tea trees. This product is part of Chunming's Ancient Tea Forest (古茶林) series, which focuses on teas sourced from the company's own ancient tea tree gardens at 1,800+ meters elevation in the Lincang tea region of Yunnan. Tan Chun has been produced annually since 2019, with each vintage capturing a distinct snapshot of that year's spring harvest.
The 2019 Tan Chun marks the inaugural release of this product line — the first edition of what would become an annual tradition. Crafted from early spring Yunnan big-leaf varietal (云大品种) tender buds and leaves harvested from mountain tea gardens at 1,800–2,400m elevation in the Lincang tea area, it was processed using traditional puerh tea methods. The tea has been naturally aged in dry storage since dispatch from the factory.
The dry leaves display fat, robust strips with an oily luster and visible silver hairs. The liquor is bright yellow-green, with a rich and concentrated aroma. The taste is thick, full-bodied, and pleasantly sweet with a brisk, refreshing character. The infused leaves are thick and bright, reflecting the quality of the ancient tree material.
