Our journey began in 2018 with a small tea house in Xi’an, at the foot of the Qinling Mountains. There, we served thousands of tea lovers each year, sharing carefully selected teas from trusted growers.

In 2023, we launched Orientaleaf.com to bring those same teas to more people around the world. Every tea we offer is something we personally drink and love. We choose quality over quantity, always.

Our story began in 2018 with a quiet tea house in Xi’an, named Yushan (屿山).

The name combines two Chinese characters: “屿”, meaning small islands, and “山”, meaning mountain. Together, “Yushan” evokes the image of a mountain composed of scattered islets — a place of peace, beauty, and retreat. That was exactly what we hoped to offer: a calm and thoughtful space where people could slow down, sip tea, and connect.

Over the years, thousands of guests visited our tea room. We brewed hundreds of teas and shared countless conversations, forming not only deep relationships with our customers, but also lasting trust with tea farmers and producers across China.

In 2023, we took everything we had built offline and created Orientaleaf.com — a place to share authentic, small-batch Chinese teas with tea lovers around the world. We don’t follow trends or chase mass production. Instead, we taste every tea ourselves, and only offer what we truly love and believe in.

The name Orientaleaf（东方嘉木） comes from the opening line of The Classic of Tea《茶经》 by Lu Yu, the Sage of Tea in the Tang Dynasty:

“茶者，南方之嘉木也。”
“Tea is the excellent plant of the southern regions.”

“嘉木” refers to the finest trees — here, the tea plant — that grow in the lush, misty lands of southern China. “东方” represents the cultural and geographical origin of tea — the East, where tea was born and cultivated into an art.We chose this name to honor tea’s ancient roots and share the beauty of true Chinese tea with the modern world.

This isn’t just a business. It’s our way of keeping the spirit of traditional tea alive — and sharing it, one cup at a time.

We don’t carry hundreds of teas — and that’s on purpose. Every year, we receive a large number of tea samples from across China. We taste them carefully, one by one, and only select a few that truly move us. These are the teas we serve in our tea room, and the only ones we share online.

To us, tea is not just a product. It carries origin, climate, craftsmanship, and culture. We believe great tea doesn’t need marketing tricks — it just needs someone who understands it, and someone willing to taste patiently until they find it.

That’s our promise: no mass production, no blind sourcing, no compromise. Just real Chinese tea, chosen with care.

We are not a big brand with endless product lines. We’re a small team, focused on tasting, learning, and choosing. Every tea we sell has been personally tested by us — often across multiple seasons and harvests. If we don’t love it, we won’t sell it.

We work directly with tea farmers and producers we trust, many of whom we’ve known for years. These relationships give us access to small-batch, high-quality teas that rarely make it into large-scale distribution.

We don’t rely on marketing slogans or fancy packaging. Instead, we let the tea speak for itself — through its aroma, flavor, and the feeling it leaves behind.

Since our founding, Orientaleaf has been proud to receive several prestigious awards and acknowledgments that reflect our commitment to quality and authenticity.

In 2025, we were honored with the “Best Leaf” World Tea Championship award, a global recognition celebrating the finest teas and producers. This achievement inspires us to maintain the highest standards in every step — from selecting tea leaves to delivering them to your cup.

Beyond awards, our teas have been featured and praised by tea experts and enthusiasts worldwide, strengthening our belief that real Chinese tea deserves to be shared and appreciated globally.

At Orientaleaf, we carefully source each tea from the best places where that tea type has been perfected for centuries.

For example, our rock teas come from the misty Wuyi Mountains in China’s southeast — famous for their mineral-rich soil that gives the tea a distinct “rocky” flavor. Our white teas come from Fuding, a region celebrated for producing delicate, fresh, and floral teas. Our golden flower Fu Brick teas originate from Jingyang, well known for its traditional post-fermented teas with rich aroma and health benefits.

By choosing teas from these top regions, we ensure every cup carries the unique taste, culture, and heritage that only those special places can provide.
