Join the Tea Community

Our customers and tea friends often gather on The Tea Table, a tea community on Discord originally created by tea enthusiast Liquid Proust in 2020.

Inside the server, members discuss tea, share tasting notes, and help each other learn more about Chinese tea.

Some of our customers have also started a small OrientaLeaf corner there to chat about the teas they’re drinking. If you'd like to meet other tea drinkers and join the conversation, you're warmly welcome to join.

Description

Six Styles, Six Formats | 250g Total | Xi'an Dry-Stored | Free Worldwide Shipping

Six different ripe pu-erhs, 250 grams of tea, and no shipping fee. The fastest, cleanest way to find out which style of shou you actually want to drink every day — before you commit to a full cake.

Ripe pu-erh is the most forgiving tea in the world to drink, and one of the most confusing to buy. Loose leaf or cake? Palace-grade buds or bold mountain blend? Tuo or brick? Scented or classic? Every option sounds good on paper, and none of them tell you what's in the cup.

This box answers the question by putting six of them side by side on your tea table.

We took our Everyday Shou/Ripe Pu-erh collection — the teas we recommend to people who just want reliable, drinkable dark tea — and pulled six that represent genuinely different styles and shapes. You taste your way across the whole range in one order, then buy the full size of the one you love.

What Makes It Unique

  1. Six Distinct Styles, Not Six Versions of the Same Tea. Bud-only palace grade, herb-scented cake, everyday value cake, classic Menghai recipe, traditional tuo, and bold Bulang loose leaf. Each one teaches you something different about what shou can be.
  2. You Pay Exactly What the Samples Cost — Shipping Is On Us. The box is priced at the sum of the six individual samples ($41.21). What you save is the $9.50 flat worldwide shipping fee. No markup for the curation, no premium for the packaging.
  3. 250g Is Not a Teaser — It's a Month of Tea. 35–50 full gongfu sessions, or dozens of thermos brews. Enough to drink each tea more than once, in different weather, different moods, different water.
  4. Xi'an Dry Storage, Every Single Tea. Semi-arid climate, 40–55% RH. No pile taste (渥堆味 wò duī wèi), no mustiness, no mold, no fishy or damp-cellar notes — including the 2024 teas. Clean from the first rinse.
  5. Real Production Material, Not Sample Dust. Every 30g portion is broken from the same full cakes or drawn from the same loose-leaf lots we sell in full size. The Lincang arrives as a complete, unbroken 100g tuo in its original wrapper.

Total 250 g $41.21

1. Imperial Gongting Ripe Pu-erh — 2021, 30g

The refined one. Gongting means "Imperial Court," and it's the highest grade ripe pu-erh reaches: tender spring buds only, less than 5% of any harvest. The liquor is deep and clear, the texture unmistakably silky — a coating, liquid-silk mouthfeel that leaf-and-stem blends simply cannot produce. Aged gently in Xi'an dry storage into pure chén xiāng (陈香) with soft date sweetness. Start here if you want to know what "premium shou" actually means.

2. Sticky Rice Scent Ripe Pu-erh (Nuo Mi Xiang) — 30g

The one people fall in love with. Real nuo mi xiang herb leaves — a native Xishuangbanna plant, never artificial flavoring — pressed together with ripe pu-erh. The result is glossy, slippery and rich in the mouth, with a warm glutinous-rice sweetness floating over the earthy base. Produced by the Tea Research Institute of the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (founded 1938). The comfort tea of the box — and the one non-tea-drinkers in your house will steal.

3. Spring Ming Menghai Ripe Pu-erh Cake — 2020, 30g

The everyday workhorse. Pressed in 2020 as part of the brand's 2008 commemorative series. A verified customer put it best: dried fruit and date sweetness up front, leather and bark underneath, turning toward cedar and camphor as it opens, with caramel and dark honey on the finish and a slightly oily weight in the mouth. Nothing flashy — everything in balance. The best value per gram in the box, and the one most likely to become your daily pot.

4. Classic 1973 Menghai Ripe Pu-erh Cake — 2021, 30g

The benchmark recipe. Named for 1973, the year modern ripe pu-erh fermentation was born in Menghai; this cake is a 2021 pressing in that classic style. Opens malty and dark-honey sweet, then develops chocolate and aged leather, with sweetness that lingers long after the swallow. Rich, deep, and endlessly re-steepable. The "I keep reaching for this one" tea.

5. Spring Lincang Ripe Pu-erh Tuo — 2024, 100g (whole tuo)

Proof that new shou can be delicious today. A complete 100g bird's-nest tuo in its original paper — not a broken-off sample. Bright red liquor, honey and caramel sweetness from a 2024 spring harvest, silky and round with no harsh edge and zero fermentation funk. Pre-portioned, easy to break, impossible to mess up. If you believe ripe pu-erh needs ten years to be drinkable, this one will change your mind.

6. Bulang Mountain Bold Ripe Pu-erh — 2024, 30g

The loud one. Bulang (布朗山) is the benchmark mountain for serious pu-erh drinkers — the range that holds Lao Banzhang, Lao Man'e and Banpen. This is a cross-mountain blend, left uncompressed so the leaf structure stays intact. Thick body, real intensity on the attack, and the signature Bulang flip: bitterness that turns into a fast, powerful huigan (回甘). The strong cup for mornings that need one.

Who This Box Is For

  • New to ripe pu-erh and tired of guessing which product page is telling the truth.
  • Burned before by a musty, fishy, pond-water shou and willing to give the category one clean, honest second chance.
  • About to buy a 400g cake and sensibly want to taste it first.
  • An experienced drinker who wants a cheap, broad read on one vendor's storage and sourcing before ordering seriously.
  • Shopping for a gift — six teas, six stories, one box.

The Xi'an Dry Storage Promise

Most bad ripe pu-erh isn't badly made. It's badly stored.

Every tea in this box is stored in our Xi'an warehouse — an inland, semi-arid climate holding roughly 40–55% relative humidity. That environment does two things: it converts residual fermentation notes into clean aged fragrance, and it never gives mold, damp or marine off-notes a chance to develop in the first place.

Our commitment on all six teas in this box: no pile taste, no mustiness, no mold, no fishy notes. Even the 2024 harvests are ready to drink the day they arrive — no "let it air out for six months" required. If any tea in this box doesn't meet that standard, our 14-day money-back guarantee covers you.

How to Brew

Gongfu (recommended):
5–7 g per 100 ml · boiling water (100°C / 212°F) · one flash rinse · then 10–20 second steeps, extending as the tea fades. Expect 8–12 infusions per sample, and 35–50 sessions from the box.

Thermos / grandpa style:
3–4 g in a 500 ml thermos or mug · boiling water · top up through the day. Ripe pu-erh doesn't turn bitter and doesn't need watching — it's built for a working day, a commute, or a cold afternoon.

Always rinse once. Five seconds with boiling water, discarded. It wakes the compressed leaf and is the difference between a flat first cup and a great one.

Storage at home: keep sealed, away from light, humidity and strong smells. Ripe pu-erh keeps improving quietly on your shelf.

FAQs

Can I choose the teas?
No — the six are fixed. That's the point: the lineup is built to cover the widest possible spread of style, format and price in one box.

Is the tea the same quality as the full-size products?
Identical. Samples are broken from the same cakes and drawn from the same lots we sell in full size. The Lincang tuo is a complete, untouched 100g tuo.

Why is the box the same price as buying the samples separately?
Because it is exactly that — the six samples, at their normal prices. The benefit is that the box ships free, saving you the $9.50 flat worldwide shipping fee.

How much tea is 250g, really?
Around 35–50 gongfu sessions, or roughly a month of daily drinking. About $1 per session.

I've had ripe pu-erh before and hated it. Should I try again?
That's precisely who this box was built for. Nearly every bad shou experience traces back to storage, not to the tea itself. Try the Gongting and the Lincang tuo first.

Does ripe pu-erh have caffeine?
Yes, moderate — generally less than green or black tea per cup, and gentler on the stomach. Many drinkers enjoy it in the evening.
