Customer video review of Jingyang Genshe 2018 Vintage Fu Brick Tea | The Three Essentials

Three Essentials Fuzhuan brick tea. A touch of wood bark, with a lingering sweet, smokey aftertaste. Syrupy mouthfeel that makes me want to drink it all day long. Great in a gaiwan, thermos, or grandpa style. Steep it as long as you want and this tea will still deliver every time. This is an amazing tea, blind bricked with no regrets. I prefer high ratios with this one because I love the punch of flavor.

Customer photo review of 1958 Premium Golden Flower Fu Brick Tea | 5-Year Aged Yunnan Dark Tea

Today I tried @orientaleaf 1958 Premium Golden Flower Fu Brick Tea with 5 years of age. This tea has a delicious aroma that is very distinctly Jin Hua, or golden flower, mixed with some jujube and a hint of malt, which surprisingly hits the vendor’s description pretty well. The taste is pleasantly sweet, yet dark, with classic Jin Hua flavors of hay or toasted grain alongside a touch of woodiness that reminds me of bark. As the steeps go on, the darker malty, grainy, woody notes begin to take over, while the Jin Hua sweetness fades into more of a supporting role. Even then, I still feel that sweetness uplifts the overall profile of the tea. My only critique is that if left to steep too long, it can become a little too bitter and mouth-drying for the Jin Hua character to combat, so I’d recommend keeping the steep times on the shorter side.

Customer photo review of Baicha Fuzhuan (Fu Xi & Fu Bao)

This is an interesting tea from the moment you smell it. I'm not sure of the age of the white tea base material, but I suspect the jin hua contributes an impression of greater age, combining with the tea's fruity, honey-like aroma to create a deeper, more mature character. The flavor reminds me of a metheglin (spiced mead): honeyed grain layered with gentle baking spices, clove, a touch of cinnamon, and a hint of vanilla. It's bright, smooth, and exceptionally easy to drink. One thing I've noticed across every tea I've had from Orientaleaf is the consistently clean storage. I've never encountered a funky, musty, or off note in any of their teas. They clearly take pride in their storage practices, and it's something that comes through in the cup.

Customer photo review of On Taoism Jingyang Golden Flower Fu Brick Tea - 350g Cake (2020)

I was skeptical about Heicha in general, I’ve had some wet piled shu and thought I didn’t like fermented tea. THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING. This is crisp yet mellow, kinda of giving me slight bark or maybe old library book note that finishes with a lingering syrupy sweetness. Slightly mouth drying, keeping me coming back for cup after cup.

Customer photo review of Bulang Mountain Ancient Tree Ripe Pu-erh - ’Timeless Aroma’

The aroma is stunning, with really distinct caramel notes. Solid quality and worth every penny. I’ve almost finished the whole cake—couldn't stop drinking it! And a huge thanks for the sweet note and the extra gift, that was such a nice touch. Will order again soon.

Customer photo review of On Taoism Jingyang Golden Flower Fu Brick Tea - 350g Cake (2020)

At first i was a bit sceptical before i tasted it, but it delived in both taste and quality. It uses good leaf base material, doesn't have a lot of funk, tastes very clean and most importantly doesn't go overly astringent as you brew into it. I prefer the red wrapper to the black, it's just a bit deeper and full bodied. Will definitely order again if it's still available then.

Customer photo review of YXT Jingyang Fu Tea Ximanzi - 2018 Premium Shaanxi Dark Tea Brick

More Fu from @orientaleaf Trying YXT Jingyang Fu This one, to me, is noticeably different visually and in its scent. Less of the Jin Hua sweetness and more of a grainy, mushroom-forward aroma. Interestingly, the dry leaf isn’t littered with visible Jin Hua like some other bricks I’ve had. The focus here seems to be more on the underlying tea material than on showcasing golden flowers. Just as the aroma hinted, this brick is really showcasing the material. Notes of malt, grain, mushroom, and a slight sweetness that flashes by as you swallow. Staying consistent with Orientaleafs impeccable clean dry storage. Overall, I enjoyed this brick and the quality of the material is apparent throughout the session. That said, my tastes tend to lean toward Fu teas that have both high-quality leaf and a more pronounced Jin Hua character. For that reason it isn’t quite a favorite of mine, but it’s still a tea with merit that I’d happily drink again.

Customer photo review of Tie Guan Yin Iron Goddess Oolong Tea

I first was given this tea by Chinese restauranteurs who worked in the same food court where I did. It came in a beautiful green sachet, and I remember thinking it was quite magical, both the packaging and the delicious, fragrant tea. Your Tie Guan Yin Iron Goddess Oolong tea is equally magical. Thank you!

Customer photo review of Classic 1973 Large 400g Menghai Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake

Cary was kind enough to gift me a cake of this one, and I’m glad he did because I find myself reaching for it pretty frequently. While this cake was gifted to me, these are my own words and opinions. I’ve had the 1973 Cake a few times now, and every session reminds me why I enjoy it so much. It opens with a rich maltiness and dark honey sweetness, with notes of chocolate and aged leather developing as the session progresses. The sweetness really sticks around, lingering on the tongue long after each sip and giving the tea a satisfying finish. Yet again, this tea exemplifies Orientaleaf’s clean storage. There’s a depth and richness to it that makes it incredibly easy to drink, while still having enough going on to keep me engaged. This is the kind of tea I’m happy to sit down with for a full session, and clearly one I’ll keep reaching for whenever I’m in the mood for a good cup of shou. If you’re looking for a rich, satisfying shou that you can reach for again and again, I’d absolutely recommend picking up a cake of this one

Customer photo review of Spring Ming Large 400g Menghai Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake – 2020

Spring Ming Large 2020 Menghai Ripe Puerh Review from @orientaleaf Right away I get a subtle, aged sweetness, not sugary, but more like dried fruit and date, with some leather underneath. There’s also a woody, barky character that initially reminded me of a campfire (not smoky) before turning more toward cedar and camphor. As the tea opens up, the sweetness settles into the background while the wood and earthy notes become more noticeable. There’s a slight oily texture that gives it a nice weight in the mouth, and I get hints of caramel and dark honey toward the back end. The camphor adds a really nice aromatic quality to the woody character and gives the finish a little more depth. The flavors aren’t particularly loud or flashy, but they work really well together. Dried fruit, leather, bark, cedar, and camphor make up most of the profile, with that subtle sweetness hanging around underneath it all. A really enjoyable shou that has a nice balance of sweetness and deeper woody, earthy flavors

Customer photo review of Ancient Grove 2018 Aged Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake – Lincang Old Tree 357g

Ancient Grove 2018 Aged Ripe Lincang Review from @orientaleaf This one is noticeably sweet right away, with that mellow sweetness I’ve been noticing in Lincang material. It has the familiar woody, earthy shou character, with a little dried fruit and a soft, slightly oily mouthfeel. The sweetness sticks around through the finish and is probably the thing that stands out most to me. Lincang material seems to have a naturally sweeter character, and this tea is a good example of that

Customer photo review of Mengku Rongshi Mu Ye Chun Ripe Pu-erh Series: Xi'an Dry-Stored

This is a great example of clean-stored shou puerh that showcases aged bark, worn leather, and old library book, with an initial sweetness of caramel and dark honey. The sweetness lingers on the tongue, gradually giving way to deeper woody, bark, and leathery notes. Clean, mature, and slightly earthy without being overwhelming.

Customer photo review of Huangshan Maofeng Green Tea – Special Grade Pre-Qingming Harvest from Yellow Mountain

Huangshan Maofeng Green Tea – Special Grade, Pre-Qingming Harvest A beautiful and delicate green tea with a clean, smooth character and a light, well-balanced flavor. I especially enjoyed how the tea developed across multiple infusions; as the leaves gradually opened, its character became more noticeable and expressive. I have tried brewing it in several different ways, and I will continue exploring different tea-to-water ratios and steeping times to find the preparation that brings out its best qualities. I think this is a tea worth exploring slowly, especially for those who enjoy delicate Chinese green teas. I would also like to thank Oriental Leaf for their excellent service and responsiveness, fast delivery, high-quality packaging, and the generous gifts included with my order. It has been a wonderful shopping experience, and I highly recommend this store.

Customer photo review of 2025 Yunnan Silver Needle | Bold Big-Leaf White Tea Sticks

Bai Hao Yin Zhen (White Hair Silver Needle) I really enjoyed my experience with this tea. The compressed piece was quite firm at first and needed a little time to loosen up, but with each infusion the leaves gradually opened, revealing a beautiful mix of leaves and buds. The liquor had a beautiful, clear golden-amber color. The tea was smooth, pleasant, and easy to drink without being flat. Its character developed nicely from one infusion to the next, and watching the compressed piece slowly open was an enjoyable part of the experience. A very pleasant tea that is well worth experiencing over several infusions. I will definitely enjoy brewing and exploring it again. I would also like to thank Oriental Leaf for their excellent service and responsiveness to my questions and inquiries. I truly appreciate the quality of the packaging, the care taken with my order, and the generous gifts included with it. A wonderful shopping experience, and a store I am very happy to recommend.

Customer photo review of Yunnan Mini Raw Pu-erh Tea Bricks (4g Single Servings)

I brewed one 4-gram mini brick in a 155 ml Yixing teapot. It produced a clear, golden-amber infusion with a clean and light flavor. There was a slight dryness along the sides of the tongue that quickly disappeared, followed by a pleasant return of moisture in the mouth. The returning sweetness was not very noticeable during my first tasting, so I will continue exploring this tea using different steeping times. It is an enjoyable tea and well worth trying. I would also like to thank the wonderful and distinctive Oriental Leaf store for their attentive service, fast delivery, valuable gifts, and excellent packaging. I had a great experience with them and highly recommend this store.

Customer photo review of Value Classic 2008 Tribute Sheng Pu-erh Tea Cake – 357g Menghai (2019 Pressed)

I am new to this experience and as such dont have a solid reference point for comparison. All the same, this tea was very pleasant, far exceeding my expectations. The earlier steeps were just short of intoxicating with a sharp, bitter taste. Last steeps were sweet and uplifting. Highly recommended for the price.

The teas arrived fast, neatly packaged, and came with a thoughtful letter including a nice gift (thank you!). This is my first time trying fu brick tea (I started with the black-wrapped On Taoism) , and I am honestly surprised as the taste and smell are even sweeter and more pleasant than I imagined. The after-taste is super pleasing. The Golden Flowers are very beautiful with is a strikingly bold yellow color, so much prettier in real life than on my photo. :-D I am looking very much forward to trying all the teas and deciding on some favorites. My first impression could hardly be better!
