Description

2018大益V93熟普洱沱茶1801批次

The "V" in V93 has sparked its share of debate among tea drinkers. Some say it stands for "Vintage" — a nod to the aged character the recipe aims to express. Others argue it references the tuo's distinctive shape: bowl-like, with a concave top that roughly resembles the letter V in cross-section. Still others trace it to an internal Menghai design philosophy, where the "V" series was conceived to revisit and elevate classic historical recipes through modern blending techniques — a quiet "Victory" over time, or simply a mark of "Value" in a product built for everyday drinking rather than collector hype. Whatever the true origin, the ambiguity itself has become part of the tea's charm — a small mystery baked into every tuo. The "93" is more straightforward: it points to the high-grade ripe tuo recipe first developed at Menghai Tea Factory in 1993. In 2005, Menghai revisited that original formula and combined it with updated production techniques to create the V93 series — a compact, bowl-shaped tuo designed for portability and easy portioning. The ripe version earned the Gold Award at the 2006 Shanghai International Tea Culture Festival, and has been released nearly every year since, becoming one of Dayi's most accessible and enduring ripe puerh products. The tuo shape itself carries history: bowl-shaped compressed tea originated in 1902 in Yunnan, engineered for better airflow during long transport along ancient tea routes — a form that remains practical today for storage and daily drinking.

Batch 1801 was produced in 2018 and has been stored in our Xi'an dry storage since dispatch from the factory, under natural storage conditions. In dry storage, the tea has continued to settle and mature — the initial fermentation character mellowing into a more refined, rounded profile while preserving the distinctive Menghai depth that V93 is known for.

The liquor pours a deep, clear red-brown. Aroma opens with the classic Menghai character (勐海味) — aged aroma layered with caramel sweetness (焦糖香), followed by notes of sweet jujube and sticky rice in later infusions. The taste is smooth and full-bodied from the first sip: no harshness or significant bitterness, with a clean, warming mouthfeel and a gentle sweetness that lingers. The texture is dense yet easy-drinking, with enough structure to sustain 12 or more infusions. Infused leaves are soft, supple, and intact — a sign of controlled fermentation and good raw material. This is a straightforward, reliable ripe tuo: approachable for newcomers and rewarding for daily drinkers.
